Group Leaders Report

This is our 8th year as a group and we were delighted to welcome 3 new members to our little gang of bookworms. We really are now bursting at the seams but it all adds to our enjoyment to listen to the different opinions on the books and see things from another perspective. I must admit it is always surprising to discover that a book you thoroughly enjoyed was thought to be a very dismal offering by someone else.

This year we have travelled from 1900s Brooklyn and an immigrant population with its joys and sorrows through Soviet Russia in the 80s and the murky world of the KGB and MI6 onwards to Jack the Rippers London in 1880s and the lives of his victims and met the Hobbits in Middle earth at the start of their quest. We have learnt something of a youthful Stephen Fry met Simon Serrailler as he fights crime and cheered on young Molly Gray our neuro divergent heroine in her search for truth at the hotel which employs her.

At the moment we are in North Carolina with Kya Where the Crawdads Sings. We shall be discussing that in Thursday’s book group so the jury’s out on that one at the moment. I can tell you that A tree grows in Brooklyn has a been our favourite so far. Not read it? I urge you to get a copy you won’t be disappointed.

That’s all for this year but I look forward to another year of laughter and discussion with the group, always a morning I anticipate with enthusiasm.
