Garden Lovers Summer Fair - 21 July 2026
One of the highlights of the Great Yarmouth u3a summer is the Summer Fair. Despite a tricky 'weather' year for all our gardeners, the quality of the produce was superb. Go to the Gallery page to get a flavour of just some of the exhibits.
Pam Butcher and Wendy Styles had the unenviable task of judging each category and believe me, it wasn't easy. Pam had the honour of presenting the certificates and cup for Best in Show to Chris and John Knowles and Christine London won the Sweetpea Challenge. A full list of winners is on the group page.
The Jube, Market Gates, Great Yarmouth
From Tuesday, 1 September 2026, our Monthly Meeting and Talks will be moving to The Jube for the following reasons:
- Capacity for 300+ members
- Undercover accessibility both in Market Gates and The Jube before and after the meeting
- Nearby Parking; 200m to Bus Station; 50m from Taxi Rank
- Cold kitchen available for tea, coffee and biscuits
- Several digital screens for easy viewing and integrated sound system
- Lifts and stairs
Closer to the time there will be detailed instructions on parking options and photographs to illustrate exactly where The Jube is. For the next monthly meeting in September, Meeters and Greeters will be stationed both in Market Gates and outside to guide members in.
Outing News

Please let Viv Sprason know if you are interested as soon as possible as they take a lot of organising and can only go ahead if we have enough committed members to make the trips viable. Proposed outings are:
- The Bayeux Tapestry Exhibition at the British Museum in London - date to be finalised
- Thursford Christmas Spectacular - Matinee on the 20 November - £70pp including coach - urgent action needed to secure tickets - email Viv Sprason
- 4-night short break to Heythrop Park in the Cotswolds 17-21 May 2027 - £575pp including, breakfast, dinner, entertainment & coach

- Huge thank you to Terry Wing, our Groups Coordinator, who is retiring from the role this year. Terry will still be leading the Garden Lovers Group with Maggie Salmon. If you have a 'Groups' question, please contact any member of the committee and we will try to help.
- History Group - the next talk on the 20 July 2026 will be given by Linda Fellas and is entitled 'Ashington, the largest mining village in the world'
- Change of venue for Whist, Scrabble and Backgammon - as from Wednesday 9 September 2026 these groups will be moving to the Methodist Church Hall, Gorleston. They will still meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, but at the new time of 2.30pm
- Miscellany - the group will be having a go at Archery on the 16 September at the Warners' site in Corton

General News
- Foreign Currency Collection - we have found a company that will exchange foreign currency for cash which we will use to help fund Great Yarmouth u3a. If you any foreign currency at home, please bring it along to the next monthly meeting. It doesn't matter whether it is still legal tender or not, for example French Francs, German Deutsche Marks or Spanish Pesetas are all acceptable.
