Status:Active, open to new members
Coordinator:
When: Fortnightly on Tuesday mornings 11:00
Venue: Member's Home

A new group for those wishing to learn how to play the Ukulele with support from fellow learners. A fun and energetic group. We have several levels of beginner from absolute novice to intermediate and times can be arranged to suit. No knowledge of music is needed you do not have to be able to read music. Sessions move at your pace.

There are actually 3 separate strands in the group, Advanced, Intermediate and Beginners. The Advanced have been learning for 2 years from absolute beginner to now, the Intermediate a little over a year from absolute Beginner and my Beginner just a few months.

If you would like to know more, please don't hesitate to email us. If you are experienced player please see our Ukulele Group page

2023 Group Report

There are actually 3 separate strands in the group, Advanced, Intermediate and Beginners. The Advanced have been learning for 2 years from absolute beginner to now, the Intermediate a little over a year from absolute Beginner and my Beginner just a few months. So there are 3 little sub groups. We meet every 2 weeks, every week for absolute beginner. How do we start?

Well 3 chords and the Truth! We begin on the Banks of the Ohio travel to the Mull of Kintyre often Blowing in the wind so after saving  the Last Dance for me we leave on a Jet Plane  and we’re Singing the Blues.

We travel further on the Sloop John B, then I kissed her and we went on to Scarborough Fair arriving Yesterday. The Fields of Athenry are a favourite location although there are no Edelweiss which is the Last thing on my Mind as we move to Loch Lomond and listen to the Skye Boat song. Never mind we are The Young Ones and if you Meet me on the Corner when there is a Bad Moon Rising we’ll hear The sounds of Silence Somewhere over the Rainbow when there’s a Blue Moon.

And there you have it, that’s how it’s done! This is just a small sample of tunes that we play. I’m delighted to say that 4 members of the Advanced gang have graduated to playing with The Band led by Geoff Roper. This was always the object of the sessions and a natural progression but of course, they still come to the beginners group on Tuesdays.

It is an absolute pleasure to lead this group and I get a great deal of satisfaction out of pointing them in the right direction and watching their progress. I enjoy our sessions enormously and look forward to then continuing and learning more and more chords and songs together.
